When the season ends, students point the same CAD, fabrication and electronics skills at a neighbor's life.
Go-Baby-Go is a national effort to modify battery-powered ride-on cars for children with limited mobility, so a child who cannot yet operate a wheelchair can still move and play independently. ITKAN's Houston chapter takes one on every off-season.
The first was for Azah, an eight-year-old in Houston with Down syndrome. Students spent the off-season on custom seating, accessible controls and supports built for her specifically, then delivered the car in person and watched her take it for a spin.
It was real engineering rather than a craft project, and it has been a yearly tradition since.
The skills are identical to the ones a team sharpens for the field. What changes is who the deadline belongs to. The most meaningful builds do not always carry a team number.
