Waiver and media release

ITKAN AI Hackathon Waiver and Media ReleaseRead it

This waiver and media release apply to the ITKAN AI Hackathon on Saturday, November 21, 2026. A parent or guardian should read them in full before the box on the registration form is checked.

1. Voluntary participation and risk acknowledgment

I, the parent or legal guardian, acknowledge that my child is voluntarily participating in the ITKAN AI Hackathon, a one-day event organized by ITKAN Institute of Technology (“ITKAN”) and held at the ITKAN Innovation Hub, 1701 10th Street, Suite 100, Plano, Texas, on Saturday, November 21, 2026. I understand that event activities may include:

  • A full day of work on computers, software, and AI tools
  • Hands-on building with electronics, batteries, wiring, and mechanical parts, where a team's project calls for it
  • Use of hand tools and workshop equipment under staff supervision
  • Presenting a project live to judges and an audience
  • Movement around a working engineering facility, including shared workshop space

I recognize that these activities carry inherent risks that cannot be entirely eliminated, including physical injury, illness, property damage, and loss of belongings. I voluntarily accept and assume all such risks as a condition of my child's participation.

2. Emergency medical authorization

I authorize ITKAN staff, mentors, and designated volunteers to secure any necessary emergency medical treatment for my child if I cannot be reached in a timely manner. This authorization includes emergency evaluation and care, transport, diagnostic testing, and any procedure deemed necessary by a licensed medical professional to safeguard my child's health.

I understand that every reasonable effort will be made to contact me first, and I agree to be solely responsible for all medical costs incurred on behalf of my child, including expenses not covered by our health insurance.

I confirm that any allergy, medical condition, or medication relevant to my child's safety, including any food allergy that matters for the lunch provided, has been disclosed in this registration.

3. Conduct and safety

I understand that my child is expected to:

  • Follow all instructions from ITKAN staff, mentors, and judges promptly and respectfully
  • Observe every safety guideline and directive in the workshop and work areas, without exception
  • Treat other students, staff, and volunteers with courtesy and respect
  • Use tools, equipment, and materials only as directed and only with permission
  • Use AI tools, the internet, and any account ITKAN provides responsibly, and only for the event

I understand that failure to follow these expectations may, at the sole discretion of ITKAN leadership, result in my child being removed from the event.

4. Photo and video release

I give ITKAN permission to photograph and record my child during the event, including their team's live demo, and to use those photos and recordings in ITKAN's promotional, educational and communications materials.

5. Liability release and waiver of claims

I confirm that I have read this waiver in its entirety and understand its contents. I give my full consent for my child to participate in the ITKAN AI Hackathon.

In consideration of my child's participation, and acknowledging the risks described above, I hereby agree to release, waive, discharge, and hold harmless ITKAN Institute of Technology, along with its directors, officers, instructors, staff, mentors, and volunteers (collectively, the “Released Parties”), from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, or causes of action of any nature whatsoever, arising out of or in connection with any loss, property damage, illness, personal injury, or death that may be sustained by my child, whether caused by the negligence of the Released Parties or otherwise, while my child is participating in the event, present at the ITKAN Innovation Hub, or taking part in any related activity.

This release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by applicable state and federal law. Should any provision be found unenforceable or invalid, all remaining provisions shall continue in full legal force and effect.

The box on the registration form, checked by my child or by me, records that I am the legal parent or guardian of the student named in the registration, that I have had the opportunity to review this waiver and media release, and that I agree to all of their terms voluntarily and without duress. A student who is 18 or older agrees to them on their own behalf.
