ITKAN Robotics FRC #9128, first all-Muslim team wins two top awards at FIRST® World Championship 2023

What a perfect way to show unity of our Ummah! Students from MAS-Dallas, Islamic School of Irving, East Plano Islamic Center(EPIC), and Valley Ranch Islamic Center (VRIC) formed the world-class team called ITKAN Robotics FRC #9128 under the exceptional leadership of Dr. Mohamed Ebeida, founder of ITKAN Institute of Technology, anon-profit 501(c)3 that aims to educate Muslim youth to be leaders in technology. The team won two top awards at the World Championship 2023 which is considered the ultimate Sport for the Mind TM .

The FIRST World Championship was held at George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston between April 19 – April 22,2023. While competing at the highest level, the team fasted the last two days of Ramadan and celebrated Eid al-Fitr at the Convention Center.

ITKAN Robotics invited everyone at the World Championship to join Eid al-Fitr Prayers, shared breakfast, and Eid Goodie bags. To accommodate Muslims from around the world, the team organized 3 Eid Salahs and appreciate FIRST for facilitating the prayer space.

  • Rookie All Star Award: A top ranking award which celebrates the rookie team exemplifying a young but strong partnership effort and implementing the mission of FIRST to inspire students to learn more about science and technology and this is what the Judges had to say about our team, “This rookie team started their inaugural year with a global impact, reaching out to those far and near they have inspired more than 20 new teams. Their effort to introduce and promote FIRST to under-represented is truly marvelous.”
  • Championship Division Highest Rookie Seed Award: An award which celebrates the highest-seeded rookie team at the conclusion of the qualifying rounds.
